NOBT presents: Back to Balanachine featuring two of George Balanchine’s most famous neoclassical ballets, “Concerto Barocco” and “Serenade”, with permissions from NYC Ballet and the Balanchine Trust.

Choreography: George Balanchine

George Balanchine’s first ballet choreographed in America and originally set on students of the School of American Ballet, “Serenade” premiered in 1934. A sweepingly romantic work set to Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, Serenade encapsulates the movement of the Balanchine technique, iconic is its expressiveness, and is easily one of Balanchine’s most beloved works the world over.

“Concerto Barocco”

Choreography: George Balanchine

First premiered in 1941, Concerto Barocco epitomizes the purity in musical representation characteristic of George Balanchine’s work. One of his most famous plotless ballets with minimal costuming, the ballet is dedicated to the complete embodiment and visualization of the music, Bach’s Double Violin Concerto.
