Commemorating the 20th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans native son Terence Blanchard will join the LPO in an impassioned, GRAMMY-award winning work— A Tale of God’s Will: A Requiem for Katrina. This evening-length emotional tour-de-force of anger, rage, compassion, melancholy, and beauty features Blanchard’s SEXTET, and the LPO. Blanchard’s visual arts collaborator Andrew F. Scott created a tapestry from still photos taken in the aftermath of the hurricane to accompany the piece.

From Blanchard: “I drew inspiration from the stories people had told me about their experiences in the aftermath of the hurricane. It wasn’t so much about music for me. It was really more about what people had to endure. I just want people to reflect on what happened here and what people had to deal with, and how things can go terribly wrong in what is supposed to be the richest country in the world.”

Please note that this concert will include a visual component of photos and multimedia collected from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. These images may be distressing for some patrons.
